Wife, mother of six, business-owner…passionate, creative, and driven. Those are just a few of the words that describe me. Don’t get me wrong I’m proud to claim those words. But when this life is over, I prefer to be remembered as someone who chased hard after the heart of God. But since you’re taking time out of your precious day to read this blog, I should properly introduce myself.
Hello, I’m Susan. I’m a wife, mother of six and I own a creative business called Shades of Chic. My first five children are adopted. Several of them have special needs. My sixth child was a surprise child…I had him at age 43 (yes, God has a sense of humor). I also fostered 33 children. And no, I’m not a saint. You’ll figure that out soon enough if you choose to keep reading.
I’ve been through my fair share of painful stuff. I’ve experienced infertility, illness, divorce, betrayal, miscarriage, more betrayal and loss. I have come to the end of myself more than once. But my story isn’t all that unique. We have all experienced pain. Am I right? I don’t pretend to have everything figured out in the pages of this blog. In fact, the more I experience something difficult, the more I learn that I don’t have a single thing figured out. The only thing I know for sure is that this life is temporary. And I’ve also learned that the more I keep my eyes fixed on what is unseen rather than the circumstances that surround me…the more peace and joy I experience.
Life is a mess. It’s completely out of order. But it’s temporary. Thank goodness for that!
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” I Peter 5:10
